Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a condition where an individual experiences uncontrollable, recurring thoughts, known as obsessions, and engages in repetitive behaviors, known as compulsions, to reduce anxiety to related to the obsessions. OCD can significantly interfere with daily functioning and cause significant distress. It is important to note that OCD does not refer to one’s preference for tidiness and order, but rather refers to one’s repeated thoughts and actions.

OCD can be treated by using medication and psychotherapy, specifically cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure response prevention (ERP). Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) has also been FDA-approved for the treatment of OCD.
