Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD)

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD)

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a persistent disorder that impacts a person’s executive functioning tasks. Executive functions are sets of cognitive processes that monitor and regulate conscious behavior. Executive functions are responsible for prioritizing and directing our mental energy in the appropriate directions that we want that mental energy to flow.

People with executive functioning difficulties have trouble with consciously controlling and regulating their mental energy efficiently towards various goals. This can come in the form of difficulty with sustained attention or concentration, procrastinating tasks, or a difficulty with disengaging or switching tasks off of an activity.

ADHD can be treated with medication and psychotherapy focusing on behavior management strategies.
